Roy was a wonderful athletics coach and a great motivator. As a CGSOB, I remember Roy taking Rod Duerden and myself on a training run with a difference - to a builder's yard where he had us running up and down a huge pyramid of sand - in order to prepare for a particularly hilly championship cross country race. Typical of Roy's commitment, and ingenuity. He will be sadly missed by many.
