Lilleyman Family 8th August 2011

Dear Steve.. Having just come across the news of Roy's passing i would like to pass on my deepest sympathy (although belated) to you and your family. I was a pupil at Newall Green, and Roy (Mr Lillyman) was our PE Instructor, not sure what year he left, but i would like to pay tribute to him on behalf of the fantastic cross country running team he developed of which i was a member. We were very successful and won many Trophys, medals etc....one of which was the Gerry Loftus Trophy ( a cross country relay)..we were unbeatable then, the team that day were John OBrien (me), Terry OBrien, Ray Watson and Kenny Eyes. Although Roy was very strict with us regarding training and keeping fit, i am sure he was very proud of us kids from a secondary school in Wythenshawe holding their own and winning against all the odds! Would just like to end with a tribute to Ray Watson who Roy said could run for England as he was that good, instead Ray joined the armed forces lost his life in the Cyprus conflict!....God Bless.
