This site is dedicated to the memory of Roy Lilleyman.

Roy died on 10 September 2010 after a brave struggle against Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, a degenerative lung condition. He was very supportive of medical research and would have been pleased to help make a difference to other IPF sufferers. Please give whatever you can and the British Lung Foundation will ensure that all money raised will be targeted specifically at research into IPF. DO YOU HAVE ANY PHOTOS OR STORIES ABOUT ROY? Please bring them along to the celebration of his life on Friday as there will be plenty of opportunity to share them with others!

Dear Steve.. Having just come across the news of Roy's passing i would like to pass on my deepest sympathy (although belated) to you and your family. I was a pupil at Newall Green, and Roy (Mr Lillyman) was our PE Instructor, not sure what year he left, but i would like to pay tribute to him on behalf of the fantastic cross country running team he developed of which i was a member. We were very successful and won many Trophys, medals etc....one of which was the Gerry Loftus Trophy ( a cross country relay)..we were unbeatable then, the team that day were John OBrien (me), Terry OBrien, Ray Watson and Kenny Eyes. Although Roy was very strict with us regarding training and keeping fit, i am sure he was very proud of us kids from a secondary school in Wythenshawe holding their own and winning against all the odds! Would just like to end with a tribute to Ray Watson who Roy said could run for England as he was that good, instead Ray joined the armed forces lost his life in the Cyprus conflict!....God Bless.

Dear Steve, I was at CGS from 1957-1964 during which Roy was our x-c and athletics coach. As well as anl enthusiastic approach to running in general, I remember especially one occasion when between the M/C and Lancs schools x-c, knowing that the course at Oldham was hilly, he took Gordon Grant and me to Alderley Edge to train (we weren't so grateful at the time) and I have been a hill runner ever since. I was hoping to meet him at the Navember reunion and am sad not to have been up to previous ones. He was one of those special teachers whom one always remembers for sparking and maintaining an interest. my best wishes to you and your family. RPD

Roy was a wonderful athletics coach and a great motivator. As a CGSOB, I remember Roy taking Rod Duerden and myself on a training run with a difference - to a builder's yard where he had us running up and down a huge pyramid of sand - in order to prepare for a particularly hilly championship cross country race. Typical of Roy's commitment, and ingenuity. He will be sadly missed by many.
